These photos depict an identity formation along with the revelation of a true self that often emerges upon an investigation of the photographic or fantasized self. I use photography as a medium in order to isolate an incident and examine details to expose what may otherwise go unnoticed. Each photograph I take becomes a small layer of evidence that assists me in learning more about myself and the world around me. I am interested in the internal and external perceptions of different selves and the effort it takes to shape an individual identity, rather than fit into a mold that already exists. Since our eyes see much like a camera lens records, I was able to create alternative identities using color, reflected light and shadows. My intent is to show how reality can be manipulated to reveal a possible truth.
PAINTING WITH LIGHT
I often use the figure in my photographs because of its complexity. I like to photograph the figure in a non-traditional way and explore how it can create new forms and layers within itself.
